Arkansas Shakespeare Theatre
Macbeth, The Taming of the Shrew, and The Producers
Arkansas Shakespeare Theatre - Summer 2009
Taking the stage of the massive Reynolds Performance Hall, the Arkansas Shakespeare Theatre not only presents three fully produced plays but also presents them in rotating rep. Thus, the lighting designs for these productions need not only to be sensitive to the artistic vision of each production but also to the practical demands of late-night changeovers with tired interns for technical rehearsals and performances - all in all a delicate balance of resources.
For Macbeth the icy arctic and black ice were chosen as inspiration for the various configurations of the setting. The Taming of the Shrew went to the streets of Italy and a unit set for its story, and for The Producers the orchestra pit was lowered and all the stops were pulled out for this over-the-top musical.
