The Glass Menagerie
The Arkansas Repertory Theatre - Winter 1993
The lighting design for The Glass Menagerie capitalizes upon the magic of the rainbows of light which are created when light passes through glass. This same magic can be found in the music and light that come from the dance hall across the street. The director also requested a look for the show reminiscent of a sepia photograph. Finally, the design pursued the idea that Dad is a character in the play - he is represented by the photograph, and when his influence is felt, some of our focus should be on Dad. Some of these moments are indicated in the script, others were added.
