Someone Who'll Watch Over Me
East Carolina Playhouse - Fall 1995
Set in a basement in Beirut, Someone Who’ll Watch Over Me utilized naturalistic lighting characterized by economy. While the usual extensive inventory of equipment was available, this design continually revisited a mantra of design: K.I.S.S. - Keep It Simple Stupid. As a result, the lighting design was achieved with only thirty-two units, and no color. The design’s lighting angles were determined by the motivated light sources apparent to the audience.
The effect of these design choices was to focus the story on the characters in the play and the reality of their environment and situation.
